Giving Swansea's heritage a new future
An iconic part of Swansea's heritage, Mumbles Pier holds a special significance for thousands of visitors and residents.
Built in 1898, the pier is owned by the Amusement Equipment Company Ltd, a family firm who have maintained the Victorian structure over three generations. It was restored in 1956 but now requires almost total reconstruction.
The owners propose to sell their foreshore land holdings for third-party development. The proceeds will finance an ambitious and innovative restoration project. These plans coincide with the construction of a new RNLI boathouse sited at the pier-head (now completed) which is needed to launch their larger Tamar class lifeboat.
Restoration work is currently on hold pending a Welsh Government business lending review.
