Pier work progress goes live on web

Anyone wanting to check on progress at Mumbles Pier in future months won't need to venture out in the elements, thanks to webcam technology.

A live feed has now been installed which will allow on-line viewers to monitor work at the £12 million rebuild and restoration project.

John Bollom, managing director of Pier owners AMECO Ltd explained that the aim is to keep the public up to date as much as possible.

"Community support has been very important to this project. We made it a priority from the outset to keep the locality informed on progress at each key stage."

Web users will be able to watch the project's first phase which involves demolition of the pier head to enable construction of a new lifeboat house. This will accommodate the RNLI's new Tamar class vessel. Successive phases will see a new pier stem built plus fishing platforms.

Completion is scheduled for for the end of 2013.
